You think 2016 was bad? We’re just getting started!
David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Abe Vigoda, Antonin Scalia, Harper Lee, George Kennedy, Nancy Reagan, Patty Duke, Prince, Muhammad Ali, Anton Yelchin, Kenny Baker, Gene Wilder, Leonard Cohen, Janet Reno, Robert Vaughn, Fidel Castro, Ron Glass, John Glenn…
Every year, some popular celebrities die and people are upset. They’re entertainers, leaders, or historic figures that people have enjoyed and/or admired for most of their lives and it’s hard to say goodbye. Feeling grief of some kind is perfectly understandable.
Just a few years ago, people used to say “It comes in threes” because we often had groups of three die around the same time. Nobody has said that over the last few years because they just keep coming.
You know what? It’s going to get worse. A LOT WORSE!
Think back to 100 years ago. It’s 1916. Who was famous then? Politicians like senators and the President, authors, big businessmen like Edison, Ford, and Carnagie, and a few others here and there. There were no movie stars. Most entertainers were locals. There was television, radio was in its infancy, and movies were just getting started. Also, the population of the country and Earth was a lot lower.
As more and more movies came out, more people became musicians, and television was born, grew, and expanded to hundreds of channels, there were naturally more and more people becoming well known celebrities. That’s in addition to the politicians, businessmen, and other notable people coming along.
There’s more of them now than ever…and they’re all getting older. They’ll all die eventually and more people will come along and become celebrities in their place.
My point is, there’s more famous people now than ever, they’re all growing older, and we’ve got so many that at some point we’re likely to get at least one major celebrity dying every day.
