Tip #252: Don’t use DSL service from a bankrupt company
My web site’s down. Covad, the company that was providing the business-speed DSL line to the server, is bankrupt. Actually, they have been for a while. Brian (my friendly neighborhood sysadmin and friend with the DSL line) switched over to Verizon (yeah, I know they suck too…but they suck less than Covad) but apparently the change didn’t take effect before Covad bit the dust. Of course, this is all my theory based on what little I’ve heard about the whole hosting situation lately. I have yet to actually hear from Brian since the servers’ connection went down.
UPDATE: Just as I submitted this, Brian sent e-mail. “We are transitioning as we speak. We’re moving the net now…”
You hear that, Lizz? Our server should be back up soon. Don’t worry. 😉
So, in the meantime, my e-mail is inaccessable. If you need to contact me, use the Anime Boston contact form and select “Webmaster”. I can still get that e-mail. (I don’t want to post the actual e-mail address here since then spammers will grab it…and there’s no getting off those damn lists.)
Anyway, wouldn’t it figure that when my cable modem connection finally gets stable that the server I wanted to work on goes down? *sigh*
Oh well. It’s nice outside, so I’ll go out. Probably grocery shopping. Then I’ve got to come back and finish carving the foam padding for the inside of my Renamon costume. I’ll probably do that while watching TV tonight.
I got a call from a headhunter this afternoon. The job doesn’t sound too great (since it’s just a 6 month contract with maybe 30 hours a week), but I sent him my resume anyway. He also asked for references. That kind of irks me. They should only ask for references when they’re about to hire someone…or when they have the field narrowed down. Asking for references up front doesn’t really seem right.
Oh well, I’ll wait and see if Kathy, Mia, and Kara actually get calls. (…and it would be kind of amusing if they called Mia at Monster.com since I’m still waiting to hear from them.)
