When I grow up, I want to claw my way into middle-management.
I went out to Maynard today and had lunch with Mia and visited with old friends at Monster.com. Amory’s has good food, especially those fries. Yum!
I couldn’t remember when the last time I visited was. I think it was March or April. Possibly sooner. They’ve had a few rounds of layoffs since then and the parking lots, which were once full, are now about the same as when I left in April 1999…except Monster.com has expanded from one floor of building five to three additional floors in another building. Apparently the 4th floor in one building only has 15 people left on it. Sounds like it’d make a perfect place for Nerf wars. 😉
Everyone seems worried that they may lose their jobs at any time. I don’t blame ’em. I’d be worried too.
Like every previous visit, Mia asked if I’d want to come back to Monster.com somday. Today, I said yes. I guess that means I’m officially desperate for work or something. I think the answer surprised her since my answer used to be “No way in Hell.”
Anyway, she said she’d let me know if there were any openings. I’m not counting on anything, but it’d be nice if I could get some regular income…even if I might just end up getting laid off after a few months.
Ironically, Mia interviewed with me when she was hired as an intern. I guess the tables have turned…
She said she moved from Fitchburg to Newton Center too…pretty close to me. I’ll have to have her over to visit sometime.
In other news, I heard from my cousin Susana this morning. (Technically, second cousin once removed…but “cousin” is easier.) She’s moving to Boston to teach and was up here to take her certification exam last weekend. She’s fun to hang out with and hopefully after she moves up here, we’d see a little more of each other.
I’m going to a cousins’ dinner at Gwen & Jim’s near Harvard Square tonight. Unlike the last cousins’ dinner, I’m positive this one is tonight. They sent e-mail. 🙂
…and I still haven’t replied to FreakBoss. Maybe later…when I come up with a reason why I can’t stay there and entertain him all night besides, “You drive me insane and annoy me to no end.”
