Scoutship - L.S.S. Riley
PatrickD's Original Scoutship Design
The scoutship was built using various pieces from all the 1995 and 1996 Aquanaut models (except for the Discovery Lab). It isn't heavily armed and is intended for scouting, exploration, or rescue missions only.
The front of the ship features a cockpit and science station. The cockpit is designed so that, if needed, the ship can be operated without a crew. All essential functions are available here.
The science station, located immediately behind the cockpit, contains scanners for long and short ranges. The scanners can analyze a planet's characteristics or an enemy's tactical ability.
Here you can see the science station (near the front) as well as the navigation and communications stations (in the right and left viewports respectively). Both the navigation and communications stations are located inside 180 degree viewports. This allows for visual navigation (if needed) and clear communication. In the center of the aft section of the ship, you'll find an airlock in the roof. This allows for easy egress for rescue missions or docking with space stations.
In the aft section of the ship, behind the blue window, you'll find the engineering station. The chief engineer can use this station to maintain top efficiency from the three hyperdrive engines. The engineer is also responsible for maintaining efficiency from the four impulse engines on the bottom of the ship.
Visible on the bottom of the ship are the four impulse engines, the lower two hyperdrive engines, the four wings, and the bottom section of the cockpit.
The ship is able to rest on its hyperdrive engines. Why? Well nobody's really sure. "It just worked out that way," claimed one designer. "Well, we didn't know if they wanted it but we put that feature in anyway. Consider it an Easter egg," said another designer.
The impulse engines are capable of lifting the scoutship out of the atmosphere of a 10G planet. Although that may be more than necessary since most Legonauts cannot stand the pressure of ten times their weight. To make up for this, all of the Legonauts on board have been custom fitted with G-suits.
